On the VeloNews Tech Podcast, I chat with pro gravel racer Alison Tetrick about her training in the era of Covid-19 and the equipment that helps her recover daily.

On the Practical Still Podcast, Mark and I chat about glassware — what’s the difference, and does it matter which glass I drink out of?

And of course, there’s a small business shoutout below. Support a great Olde Town Arvada business!

Practical Still podcast: Does glassware matter?

On this week’s episode of The Practical Still Podcast, Mark and I talk vessels — the wonderful, the weird, and the wacky. Does it matter what glass you drink your whiskey from? It does indeed, but that doesn’t mean you need to rush out to the store before enjoying that bottle you bought. Here’s what you need to know about whiskey glassware.

VN Tech Pod: Alison Tetrick’s survival gear

On this week’s episode of the VeloNews Tech Podcast, I sat down with Alison Tetrick to talk about the gear she relies on to train and stay sane during these difficult times. She’s still on her bike, but at a socially safe distance. And she still carries her whiskey flask with her at gravel races — it’s all about focusing, and staying sane. Take a listen to get the full skinny.

Book Review: Amy Hempel’s “Reasons to Live”

I don’t know how I did it, but I actually convinced (pestered?) my brilliant wife to write a piece for my website! A voracious reader (and critical editor, particularly of my writing), she also happens to be a wonderful book reviewer. Here, she gives her impressions of Hempel’s collection of short stories from the pre-Internet age (some of us remember those times as the 1980s).

Be sure to leave lots of wonderful comments on her post so we can convince (pester?) her to wrote some more reviews.

Small business shout-out: Spirits Wine and Provisions

Casey and Emily at Spirits Wine and Provisions in Arvada, Colorado have created one of the coolest shops in Olde Town. They’re wonderful folks. Usually in this space I’d offer you a discount code, but instead, I urge you to visit the Spirits website and check out the good they’re doing for the people who live and work in Olde Town. Support the bartenders who have lost their jobs during the Covid-19 crisis, and while you’re at it, buy a gift card to SWP. Let’s keep them in business because frankly, they’re good for our community and they deserve our support.
